Dr. Daniel Timmer
B.S., Western Michigan University
M.A., Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary
Th.M., Ph.D., Trinity International University
Dr. Daniel Timmer is dean of the seminary and teaches the Biblical Studies courses (Old and New Testaments). His research interests, which include ancient Near Eastern religion and literature, priestly and wisdom theology, Second Temple Judaism and Qumran, and the use of the Old Testament in the
New, all reflect his desire to interpret Scripture in a way that appreciates its background and history in concert with its literary and theological facets.
Dr. Timmer regularly presents his research in academic societies in Canada and the United States, and publishes articles on theological aspects of biblical and ancient Near Eastern literature. In addition to preparing a monograph on the interrelation of creation, the tabernacle and the Sabbath in Exodus, he is seeking to contribute to the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls by examining the social, ideological, and theological elements in the Qumran group's sectarianism. An article by Dr. Timmer dealing with some theological themes in Exodus can be found here.
Dr. Timmer lives in Montréal with his wife Andreea and their son Nathan, and serves as an elder in the Eglise Réformée du Québec in downtown Montréal.
